There had been something missing in Toronto’s feisty and blithesome ambience, but we couldn’t quite put our finger on it. Then came Drake bursting through the front door announcing that OVO Fest is finally coming back after a brief but heart-wrenching one-year hiatus. We all breathed a sigh of relief secretly glad that the concert we are insanely in love with is making a comeback. High-five, anyone?
In case you missed the breaking news, let us update you!
During the Raptor’s 2019 NBA Championship Parade, Drake had dropped the news that the ninth annual OVO Fest will be returning this year. He stated, “I hope all these guys will join me this year ’cause we are bringing OVO Fest back so I hope we can go crazy!” and of course as if on cue, the crowd did go crazy. Later, in the wee hours of July 11, Drake shared on his Instagram that tickets for OVO Fest 2019 will be available for purchase on Friday at Live Nation. We can clearly picture the fans’ awestruck expressions because they mirror our own.
Drake shared the full lineup for the upcoming event as well. OVO Summit will be held on August 1 and 2 at Metro Toronto Convention Center. According to a press release, Royal Bank of Canada and OVO have teamed up to present the OVO Summit to the Canadian public for the first time in forever. It further stated that it will be an immersive conference for Canadian creatives and lifestyle entrepreneurs. Sounds promising to us! This also explains that why there are sleek black billboards with a golden-toned owl and RBC logo staying ‘Earn It’ popping up in every other street of Toronto. Rumor has it is actually a promotion for an OVO RBC credit card.
OVO Basketball will take place from July 29 to August 2 at the University of Toronto – Goldring Centre. It is high time to stock up on those owlish jerseys, guys! Coming to the performers, B2k, Chingy, the Ying Yang Twins, Pretty Ricky, LLoyd and Bobby V are all set to woo us with their music at Budweiser Stage on August 4. Then the crowned King of Hip-Hop himself will take the stage on August 5 along with some special guests.
OVO Fest first took place in 2010 in Toronto during the Civic Holiday weekend. Hosted by Drake and his record-label OVO Sound, the concert is renowned for its notable performances by famous music artists and appearances of special guests. Drake has done a wonderful job connecting to people through his music. There is no doubt that he is one of the most influential music artists of this generation. His October’s Very Own Festival is the perfect example. Queue up to buy yourself the golden ticket and join the crazy fun at the star-studded ninth annual OVO Fest.
